Movement Resource Group releases $27,300 for
first round Occupy grants

Fort Collins, Colorado– Movement Resource Group has infused financial support into Occupy Movement affiliated projects totaling $27,300 dollars.

According to the website, “The purpose of MRG is to act as a liaison between funders and the national Occupy Movement” accepting proposals that are related to messaging, recruitment or direct action.

The first eight grant recipients include: InterOccupy.org, Occupy StoreFront, Ideological Liberation Working Group of San Francisco, Occupy Toledo’s Foreclosure Defense League, RadiOWS, Spreading the Health, Walkupy.org.  The average grant was about $5,000.

The board confirms the review process is difficult as the ideas are all admirable.  As is the spirit of participatory development, it is encouraged to continue to refine returned proposals for resubmission. The board consists of five Occupiers from around the country as well as appointed long-time activists.

The second round of grants will maintain the five thousand dollar cap in general with the exception of a few spots for especially compelling projects that are ready to apply for ten thousand dollar capped grants.  Second round grants are being accepted now and will have a deadline of April 16 with decisions announced at the early May.
